Eyelid lacerations are a common
emergency.  NEVER cut the eyelid off, it
must be stitched back on so your horse will
have functional tears.
Wounds that require stitches
should be attended to within
6-12 hours for best result.
Please call as soon as possible
for best healing.
Heel bulb lacerations are a common injury with horses especially ones that are
in a field with barbed wire.  Heel bulb lacerations usually appear to be small in
nature and look simple so many horse owners do not seek veterinary attention.
In approximately 3 days after an injury to a heel bulb, proud flesh sets in and
makes healing of the area virtually impossible.  The reason this particular area
on a horse will not heal is due to constant motion from the horse.

Heel bulb lacerations treated the same day are sutured and often placed in a
cast for two weeks.  Horses do very well with this type of protocol.

The horse in the picture to the right will never look normal and will be
burdened with intermittent infections of this large mass without extensive
major surgery.
